Happy New Year?

I suppose that, if you think about it - and most Lyrans don't have time to - this might be one of the last years we actually spend on this shithole of a planet. We've become so used to living here that it's really hard to imagine going home. It hit me tonight watching French TV. In ten years I could be home. Bloody hell.

Last Word on Krugman

I now realise just how successful we have been controlling the way the world thinks about the US economy. Sitting in the Business Class lounge in Frankfurt yesterday, I heard two large fat Americans preaching the virtues of their economy and running down the Europeans. None of the European businessmen in the lounge dared to contradict them. Looks as though we have won.

No Need to Kill Krugman

In fact, I suspect the Assassinations Committee was right about Krugman. He may be right, as far as he goes, but nobody believes him. In part, this is because we have put a lot of effort into getting clones into places like the Wall Street Journal and the Economist, to ensure that the truth about the US economy is never revealed. There's a joke that most meetings at the Economist these days are held in Lyran - not true, but indicative.

Killing Paul Krugman (Not)

I was right about Krugman. The Assassinations Policy Committee met yesterday and decided not to bother. The NYT just doesn't have enough readers to make it worthwhile. I'm not sure 315's hearts are in this assassination business anyway these days; Arguably, he's never been the same entity since the Princess Diana business.
